CYC Racing Schedule 2011 (June, 2011)

Collingwood Yacht Club Racing in 2011 will consist of a Weekend Series including the Georgian Bay Cup and the Meaburywood weekend, a Tuesday Night Series and for Female Skippers the Kim Campbell Memorial Race.

There will be an entry fee of $30.00 (if paid with your annual dues, late fee $10.00) for racing in CYC Club Racing for 2011. This entry fee will cover all CYC sanctioned events including the Georgian Bay Cup. The Meaburywood Challenge is unique as it is hosted by either the Collingwood Yacht Club, the Thornbury Yacht Club or the Reef Boat Club on a three year rotating basis and there is no racing fee. In order to not waste a day when people take the effort to get a crew together, we will use the Georgian Bay Cup and the Meaburywood as club races.

All boats racing in club events will require a current PHRF certificate. PHRF Certificates must be renewed each year at a cost of $20.00. The Club collects and submits race results to PHRF-LO which saves each boat $5.00 per certificate. We need to update all boat measurements this year. The Club currently has 2 handicappers, Al Woolnough and Mike Campbell. The Club needs someone to become a handicapper and manage the PHRF-LO certificates.

All boats that enter a club race course or intend to compete in club racing shall complete a Club Racing Registration Form and a Club Liability Waiver which shall provide the competing boat's liability insurance information. The Club Racing Registration Form and Club Liability Waiver shall be provided to the Race Committee by the due date of the Club Annual Dues.

All Racing will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailling including CYA prescriptions. Weekend Racing will begin with a Skipper's Meeting at 8:30am on land and the First Start at 10:00am on the water. The Georgian Bay Cup and Meaburywood races have unique race start times which will be determined. Tuesday Night informal racing will begin with a Skipper's Meeting via VHF on the water at 6:30pm and the Race Start at 7:00pm. Please work back from the race start to determine when the race sequence begins. All competitors shall check in with the Race Committee boat on the water 20 minutes prior to the start of the race. All Communication for CYC Racing will be on channel 12. All boats that abandon a race shall notify the race committee and leave the course as soon as possible. The Protest Time Limit will be 2 hours following the finish time of the last boat to finish the race.

Race Committee (RC) is always a challenge and to assure the committee duty is performed by an interested party the schedule and scoring structure has been set up to allow the racers to perform their Race Committee duty without compromising their scoring. When a racer is assigned Race Committee duty they will be on the water for the day starting and scoring as many as three races. If we all do our assigned duty the Race Committee will be sustainable, there is no need to make hours of phone calls to get people out for RC or offer Work Hours for RC. With 15 races scheduled, allowing for race duty and missed races the year end results should be based on the best 9 races, we’ll see how the year turns out.

We seem to get good fleet turn out for Tuesday night Racing and a number of people are asking to formalize these races. We will try a Tuesday night series this year, with results for Flying Sails and Non-Flying Sails.
