What to do if there is a fuel spill in the narbour

Chemical or Fuel Leak or Spill in Our Harbour Basin

Fuel leak response process:

1.Inspect any report of fuel or chemical spill.

2.Contact Coast Guard either via VHF or by entering *16 on your cell phone.

3.Contact Town, at 705 445-1030 ext. 3238

4.Contact the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) Barrie 1 800 268-6060

5.Follow recommendations and keep all parties up to date.

CYC spill supplies: absorbent pads have been purchased by the club and will be kept in the tool shed when acquired.

Communication:

Anyone detecting a possible fuel spill should report it immediately to the director of facilities and/or mooring.

The board will immediately communicate with members of the club to complete boat inspections needed to identify the offending vessel.

Club members should also be aware that if their boat is the offender, they are responsible financially for cleanup costs.

Club Executive members will have access to a complete e-mail list in the directory to reach other members in this situation.
