Collingwood Invitational Regatta Notice of Race June 28th and 29th, 2025Georgian Bay Cup and K-Force Trophy Races at the Collingwood Yacht Club NOTICE OF RACE - Released May 23, 2025The Collingwood Yacht Club invites all sailors to participate in the 2025 Collingwood Invitational Regatta.
1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the Sailing Instructions, as provided, and any modifications announced at the skippers' meeting. These instructions supersede all other rules. 1.2 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (current edition). 1.3 The Collingwood Invitational Regatta will be governed by the Race Equipment & Safety Regulations, see Appendix A 1.4 Rules of the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet Lake Ontario (PHRF-LO) http://www.phrf-lo.org/images/Documents/handmanss.... shall also apply. 2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY2.1 The race is open to mono-hull sailboats that are self-righting and at least 20 feet in length. Boats shall have self-bailing cockpits and lifelines. The Regatta Management Committee (RMC) will deal with exceptions on a per-case basis. All boats participating should have a valid PHRF certificate for the year 2025. All boats must have a valid liability insurance policy and be able to provide proof if requested.2.2 Eligible sailboats may enter by completing the 2025 Regatta registration on-line using the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/Yxafxua5bJ. Cash or cheque for the registration can be brought to the registration the day of the event.2.3 Racers may select to compete in one of two divisions. These will be the Flying Sails Division and the White Sails Division. 2.4 Skippers in the race shall not be less than 18 years of age.2.5 Each competitor's boat shall display a sail number specific to the sailboat's PHRF certificate. A request to display an alternate sail number may be considered by the registrar at or before the final registration. 3 FEES3.1 The entry fee per boat is: $40.00 for all classes.3.2 Following the first race, Saturday June 28th, a social and BBQ supper will be hosted by the Collingwood Yacht Club. There will be a cost of $15.00 for each participant who wishes to partake. The fee for the BBQ must be paid at the time of registration. 4 SCHEDULE4.1 The Registrar will be available at the Collingwood clubhouse between 1100 hrs and 1230 hrs (the registration deadline) on Saturday June 28th.4.2 The skipper' meeting will not be conducted until 1230 hrs or later Saturday June 28th, 2025 and at 0900 hrs or later Sunday June 29th at the clubhouse. A representative of each boat should attend this meeting which is open to all participants. 4.3 The first warning signal for the first race on Saturday, June 28th, will not be made before 1330 hrs. The Flying Sails Division warning signal will be made first, no earlier than 1330 hrs. The first warning for the White
Sails Division will not be before 1340 hrs. The race start times may be delayed at any time by the race committee by displaying the AP pennant. Once the pennant is removed, a time period of one minute will be observed before any warnings will be displayed. 4.4 On the day two races are scheduled, the first warning signal for the second race will not be made until at least 5 minutes after the last boat has crossed the finish line from the first race of the day. The Flying Sails Division warning signal will be made first. The first warning for the White Sails Division will not be made before 5 minutes after the Flying Sails Division has started and all boats have cleared the start line. The race start times may be delayed at any time by the race committee by displaying the AP pennant. Once the pennant is removed a time period of at least one minute will be observed before any warnings are displayed. This race maybe held either on the Saturday or the Sunday depending on the decision of the race committee, based upon the weather conditions. 4.5 The first warning signal for Sunday racing will not be made before 1000 hrs, Sunday, June 20, 2025. The Flying Sails Division warning will be made first, no earlier than 1000 hrs local time. The first warning for the White Sails Division will not be before 1010 hrs. The race start times may be delayed at any time by the race committee by displaying the AP pennant. Once the pennant has been removed a time period of at least one minute will be observed before any further signals will be displayed. 4.6 The race committee may delay or cancel race starts based on weather conditions.4.7 In the event that less than 10 boats are registered at the regatta, the race committee may decide to combine the starts for the two divisions into one. 5 SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND INSPECTIONS5.1 It is the responsibility of each boat's skipper to ensure the vessel is sea worthy and in good repair. All safety equipment, as prescribed by Transport Canada's Safe Boating Guide, shall be on board and in good order. 5.2 The race organizers reserve the right, at any time before or after the race, to inspect a boat for violations of the safety requirements. A boat that fails to follow such directions or which subsequently fails the inspection may be disqualified by the Race Committee. 6 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS6.1 The sailing instructions will be available at www.collingwoodyachtclub.com by June 21, 2025.7 VENUE AND THE COURSES7.1 The venue for the race weekend will be southern Nottawasaga Bay, south of a line drawn between Spratt Point at Woodland Beach and the New Bank Shoal Buoy TB2. 7.2 Three courses are planned for the Collingwood Invitational Regatta, the details of which will be communicated at the skippers' meetings. It is anticipated, however, that there will one triangular course, one windward leeward course and one mid-distance race to a point and returning. The courses may not be scheduled in the order noted in the SIs. The race committee will determine prior to the skipper's meetings, which courses will be sailed and in which order, based upon the wind strength, direction and the weather forecast. 7.3 All starts will be north east of TN13, the first green channel marker to the Collingwood harbour, and between the committee boat and a yellow buoy, unless otherwise specified at the skippers' meeting.7.4 The finishes of courses will be in the same position as the start line. In the event of a shorten course, the committee boat may move to one of the buoys along the course and the finish will be between the committee boat and that buoy. The committee boat will fly the S flag to signal a shortened course. There is no requirement to inform the competitors via radio, although this may be done.
7.5 In the event of severe weather for the mid distance race, the Race Committee maybe stationed ashore and will observe finishes from the end of the spit looking toward the finish line. Boats shall record their own finish time using GPS time and report their boat name, sail number, and finish time via VHF Channel 12 immediately after crossing the line. Competitors should also take note of the approximate finish times of the boats immediately ahead and behind them to assist in confirming the finishing order. The Race Committee will attempt to verify finishes visually using binoculars, but competitor-reported times may be used for scoring. Failure to report a finish time may result in being scored Did Not Finish (DNF)."7.6 All red port spar buoys along the course will be considered marks of the course and will be taken to the appropriate side, with the exception of buoy that are being rounded. 8 SCORING8.1 PHRF-LO current Time on Time formula shall be used with the Sailwave scoring system. Sailboats shall be scored in their own divisions. 8.2 If by chance, the weather or other factors interfere with the completion of one or more of the races, the results will be calculated on the basis of the race or races completed. 9 SUPPORT BOATS9.1 There will be one Race Committee Boat which shall fly a Race Committee flag.9.2 Any boat requiring assistance should drop anchor and radio or use another commonly recognized signal to request a tow. The race committee boat, or other vessel, will come to their assistance after the race has been completed, unless there is an emergency requiring immediate medical attention such as a serious injury or other dyer medical emergency. 10 BERTHING10.1 Boats may berth at Collingwood Yacht Club, before or after the race for a time period up to one week without any additional fee, if space is available. Berthing assignments are limited and will be provided on a first come first served basis. Collingwood Harbour can accommodate boats over 40 feet in length on partially exposed seawalls if an appropriate slip is not available. Early notification of visiting boats will allow the committee to investigate berthing solutions. Boats arriving before Friday at 1600 hrs are requested to make arrangements in advance for berthing. 10.2 The Collingwood club has a 4500 lb crane specifically for dry sailed boats to accommodate trailered boats which have a centre lift point. Early registration of visiting trailer racers is encouraged to alert the committee to their needs and provide a club member to assist entering the club gate, the operation of the crane and to ensure a suitable space for parking. 10.3 The club will provide a member to assist the skippers in finding an appropriate spot to dock between the hours of 1600 and 2100 hours on Friday, June 27th. Skippers are requested to hail the club on channel 68 at least 15 minutes before arrival so an appropriate slip can be determined. 11 COMMUNICATION WHILE RACING11.1 Accessing information that is not available to all boats during the race will be considered a violation of Rule 41. 11.2 All boats must sail by the stern of the race committee boat showing their sail number at least 10 minutes before the warning for the first start is scheduled to be made. 11.3 All communications from the race committee shall be made on channel 12. Do not attempt to communicate with the race committee, unless it is an emergency, once the first warning sequence has been made. In the event of an emergency, the AP flag will be flown and the sequence stopped. 11.4 Any boat withdrawing from the race must signal this intention to the race committee on channel 12. In the event they are unable to reach the race committee, they should contact another vessel in their division and report their intent. Boats withdrawn from racing should stay clear of the vessels racing and the finish line and are requested to fly a Canadian ensign (flag) to signal that they are no longer racing.
12 PRIZES12.1 The first three boats in each division will be recognized.12.2 The winners of both divisions will have the skipper's name and boat names engraved on either theGeorgian Bay Cup plaque or the K-Force Trophy. 13 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY13.1 Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage and injury. Competitors in this eventare participating entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The race organizers (organizing authority, race committee, protest committee, host club, sponsors, and or any other organization or official) will not be responsible for damage to any boat or other property or the injury to any competitor, including death, sustained as a result of participation in the event. By participating in the event, each competitor agrees to release the race organizers from any and all liability associated with such competitor's participation in the event to the fullest extent permitted by law. 14 INSURANCE14.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimumcover $2,000,000 liability. Appendix A to the Notice of Race REGATTA Race Equipment and Sailing Regulations A1 SAFETY EQUIPMENT A1.1 The regatta race equipment & safety requirements are that all boats will conform to the safety requirements of Transport Canada's Safe Boating Guide, which can be found at http://www.tc.gc.ca/media/documents/marinesafety/T.... A1.2 All boats will be required to have a working VHF radio, with channel 16 and 12 available. A1.3 Charts Navigational charts including Canadian Hydrographic Service Chart 2283 "Owen Sound to Giants Tomb Island" should be carried by each vessel. A1.4 A boarding ladder or other means of retrieving crew from the water is required. A1.5 Each crew member shall have a lifejacket/PFD in accordance with the requirements of the Safe Boating Guide and each crew member shall wear a lifejacket during the start of the mid-distance race and during the entire race if the Y fag is being flown being flown from the committee boat.
